چکیده

Cross-linguistic Influence at Syntax-pragmatics Interface: A Case of OPC in Persian

Recent research in the area of Second Language Acquisition has proposed that bilinguals and L2 learners show syntactic indeterminacy when syntactic properties interface with other cognitive domains. Most of the research in this area has focused on the pragmatic use of syntactic properties while the investigation of compliance with a grammatical rule at syntax-related interfaces has not received...

Experimental investigations on implicatures: a window into the semantics/pragmatics interface

It is traditionally assumed in the linguistic-pragmatic literature that Scalar Implicatures (A or B >> either A or B but not both; some of the Fs>> at least one but not all of the Fs) are explicitly defeasible, structure-dependent and defeasible in context. We present three off-line studies that demonstrate the psycholinguistic reality of these properties of Scalar Implicatures (henceforth SIs)...

Incorporating Selectional Restrictions into HPSG

This article is concerned with integrating the phenomenon of selectional restrictions in a formal grammar theory. Firstly, the question of treating selectional restrictions purely in the semantic module is discussed, as there are some contextual (or pragmatic) influences, which can repair the ill-formedness of violated selectional restrictions. Secondly, we shed light on the stucture of pragmat...

The Logic of Anaphora Resolution

This paper concerns the semantics/pragmatics interface for natural language, and in particular the question of how anaphora resolution should be orchestrated in a dynamic semantics. Previous dynamic systems such as DPL have relied on preindexation of anaphors and antecedents. It is argued that this represents a serious inadequacy. A dynamic semantic system, RPL, is proposed which eliminates the...

Nothing is Hidden: Contextualism and the Grammar-Meaning Interface

A defining assumption in the debate on contextual influences on truth-conditional content is that such content is often incompletely determined by what is specified in linguistic form. The debate then turns on whether this is evidence for positing a more richly articulated logical form or else a pragmatic process of free enrichment that posits truly unarticulated constituents that are unspecifi...
